Summary of Job Duties:

The Security Officer assigned to the Administration Building is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for faculty, staff, students, visitors, and guests. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, high visual awareness, and the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships across the campus community. The Security Officer serves as a highly visible presence, provides guidance and direction, and supports the mission and daily operations of the University of Arkansas Police Department.

Essential Job Functions
• Maintain a highly visible security presence within and around the Administration Building.
• Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with faculty, staff, students, and visitors through daily interaction.
• Provide directions, information, and general assistance to building occupants and campus visitors.
• Monitor building activity and report suspicious behavior, safety concerns, or policy violations to UAPD.
• Conduct routine patrols of assigned areas, including stairwells, hallways, offices, and exterior spaces.
• Respond to calls for service and assist UAPD officers as directed.
• Accurately document daily activities, incidents, and observations through required reports and logs.
• Enforce university policies and procedures in a courteous and professional manner.
• Participate in mandatory special pay assignments, events, or operational needs as assigned.
• Attend and successfully complete all mandatory training as required by UAPD.
• Successfully complete bi-annual physical fitness testing and maintain compliance with all UAPD policies and professional standards.


Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function of this job, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a security related field

  • Completion of 30 educational hours at an institution of higher education

  • Certification in CPR


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to provide guidance and direction

  • High level of visual awareness and attention to detail

  • Ability to build rapport and trust with faculty, staff, and students on a daily basis

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain calm in routine and stressful situations

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
