Summary of Job Duties:

The Power Plant Operator II position is responsible for training and performing tasks related to the operation of steam production equipment and various auxiliary systems within the power plant. This position will also assist with general boiler plant operation, boiler draft and combustion control, feed water, steam system management, auxiliary equipment monitoring and operation, boiler header and water column blowdowns, maintaining proper boiler water chemistry; perform minor maintenance as required; investigate and report operational issues, and adhere to safe operating procedures.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • The formal education of a High school diploma or equivalent
  • A valid driver’s license for legal operation of a motor vehicle in the State of Arkansas
  • At least one year of industrial and/or mechanical plant experience or equivalent experience where machine operation is emphasized

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High-pressure boiler license
  • DOT Gas Transmission Operator Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to work rotating shifts to cover a 24-hour, 7-day-per-week operation
  • Ability to work safely in a heavy industrial environment containing high-temperature boilers, high-pressure steam systems, high-voltage electric systems, and large rotating machinery
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions at an acceptable level. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions, safety guidelines, and operating procedures
  • Ability to effective communication with power plant staff and supervision is essential
  • Ability to perform minor, routine mechanical maintenance

  • Must be able to obtain a High-pressure boiler license within 6 months of hire
  • Persons in this classification must satisfactorily complete all training requirements for the Steam Plant Operator II position within 2 years
  • Compliance with all department safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures is mandatory


Salary Information:

$56,123 - $63,138.50 - Commensurate with education and experience
