Summary of Job Duties:

The Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) at the University of Arkansas invites applications for up to two, two-year, 12-month Postdoctoral Fellow positions in geomatics and/or spatial data science. CAST is seeking a colleague who can work collaboratively with diverse communities of scholars; and has transdisciplinary interests that will strengthen links with Geosciences, Anthropology, Computer Science and Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, and other cognate units. Methodological and theoretical experience in geomatics; or geospatial analysis and remote sensing are required. Research interests are open, though we are especially encourage candidates with strengths in one or more of the following: sensor modeling; surface reconstruction; InSAR and related high-resolution, rapid revisit optical systems; automated image matching and registration; error propagation; historical imagery; LiDAR; database design; and experimental uses of 3D data. Novel applications of spatial data for heritage and archaeology, Arctic science, and other ecological and environmental applications are also welcome. The successful candidate must have a strong research record, including external grant support and publications. 50% of the postdoctoral fellow’s time will be allocated towards self-directed research, and 50% will be spend integrating and coordinating with ongoing CAST research projects, depending on areas of interest. The position includes a competitive salary and offers access to lab facilities, equipment, and institutional research funding.

This is a 2-year appointment, renewable based on the need for the position, availability of funding, and continued satisfactory level of performance in the role.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Anthropology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Geodetics, Geosciences, or a related field; conferred by the time of appointment

  • At least 5 years of experience with geodesy, geomatics, computer vision, photogrammetry, methodological and theoretical GIS, spatial data analysis, or remote sensing

  • Demonstrated expertise and funding capabilities, including publications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience applying methodological and theoretical expertise to problems in multidisciplinary settings

  • Ability to complement and enhance the existing research capabilities of the Center

  • Familiarity with programming languages

Salary Information:

Minimum of $57,399.00. Commensurate with education and experience.
