Summary of Job Duties:

The UA - Fayetteville Department of Theatre is seeking a part-time Hourly Technical Theatre Support candidate to act as a stitcher for the Spring 2025 semester. The successful candidate will work in the Costume
Shop on Department of Theatre productions, alongside the Costume Shop Manager, graduate assistants, and undergraduate work study students.

Responsibilities and expectations for this position will include:
• Construct and/or alter all assigned costumes according to supervisor’s
specifications, possibly including some pattern drafting and draping
• Actively participate in a team consisting of supervisor, graduate assistants, and
undergraduate students
• Understanding of the period, style, and techniques necessary to complete the
costume within the costume designer’s guidelines
• Maintain the integrity of the costume design
• Comfortable with using domestic, industrial, and serger sewing machines
• Comfortable with hand sewing techniques
• Ability to collaborate with the costume team to complete assigned
projects
• Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills
• Prep work for undergraduate work study students and supervise progress
• Ability to work well under tight deadlines, in a fast-paced environment
• Assist with organization and maintenance of costume storage inventory
• Ability to perform the following tasks with minimal supervision:
-Zipper insertion
-Garment alterations
-Basic tailoring skills
-Hemming
-Hand sewing
-Quick rigging of costumes

Other duties my be performed as necessary and assigned.

$20.00 per hour

This is a part-time position not eligible for benefits.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • Advanced skills in hand and machine sewing with an understanding of theatrical costume construction techniques and terms

  • Demonstrated proficiency in hand sewing techniques

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in theatre preferred, but not required

Knowledge, Skills & Ability:

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to maintain a professional work environment around graduate and undergraduate students

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to work 20 hours per week (times flexible, but afternoon availability preferred)
