Summary of Job Duties:

The Transition Programs & Initiatives (TPI) Graduate Assistant supports professional staff in the planning, implementation, and assessment of student programs and services. The Graduate Assistant works closely on key programmatic areas, including A-Week, Welcome Weeks, First-Generation Initiatives, Class Programs, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and other student transition initiatives and collaborations.

Graduate Assistants in TPI are expected to be student-centered, intrinsically motivated, task-oriented, and relationship-driven. They must be able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Strong computer skills and the ability to effectively navigate various social media platforms are essential. TPI Graduate Assistants work alongside professional staff and assist with both small- and large group facilitation. They should demonstrate excellent customer service skills and be able to engage effectively with a wide range of constituents.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function, as is the ability to foster and maintain collegial and harmonious working relationships.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and successful enrollment in a graduate-degree seeking program at the University of Arkansas.

  • GPA of 3.0

  • Experience mentoring students

  • Experience working both independently and in groups

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate experience in event planning, student staff training & development, and student organization leadership experience

  • Experience mentoring students

  • Experience working both independently and in groups

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Strong written communication skills

Compensation & Benefits:

  • $19,260.00 for 50% appointed, 12-month master’s-seeking GA Position

  • Tuition paid - A 50% graduate assistantship and six hours of credit class is considered full-time graduate status.

  • Optional – Partially funded student health insurance

  • Employee Assistance Program – Counseling Services

Hours and Schedule:

  • The position is designed to be a 20 hour per week in-person commitment.

  • Weekly office hours are set by Graduate Assistant with flexible scheduling based on academic commitments.

  • Weekly office hours worked between 8am-5pm with occasional presentation or event pre-scheduled outside of business hours.

  • Hours determined on a semesterly basis and flexible around academic commitments.

Employment Timeline:

  • Start date is TBD.

  • This position is eligible for up to two years of continuous employment as a Graduate Assistant, contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued academic enrollment.
