Summary of Job Duties:

The Business Operations Specialist is a member of the Student Affairs Operations Shared Services team. The primary focus of this role is divisional financial operations, with additional responsibilities supporting human resources functions.

The Business Operations Specialist is responsible for the reporting, tracking, and analysis of financial transactions for the Division of Student Affairs. This role monitors account balances, prepares regular financial statements, and oversees reconciliations. The position also supports financial planning by analyzing financial data, assessing trends and variances, and preparing information that informs planning and decision-making processes.

The role also maintains the division’s finance dashboard and finance website, ensuring information is accurate and up to date. The Business Operations Specialist also serves as the main point of contact for the annual inventory, coordinating between individual units and Property Accounting to ensure all items are located, scanned, and accurately recorded.

The role provides support to the Human Resources team by preparing tracking reports to ensure divisional compliance. Additionally, the Business Operations Specialist assists with transactional HR functions in Workday, including position data maintenance, payroll-related processes, and time entry management.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university of higher education

  • At least four years of experience in operational reporting and financial operations, accounting, fiscal management, or related field

  • At least one year of experience providing HR transactional and/or administrative support

Applicable equivalencies may be considered for the above qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Administrative operational experience in higher education

  • At least five years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management

  • At least four years of experience in financial reporting

  • Experience using Workday

  • Experience working with databases, including the ability to create customized financial statements or reports

  • Experience maintaining divisional information and resources on shared platforms

  • At least two years of experience providing HR transactional and/or administrative support

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Knowledge of accounting and financial principles, including reconciliations and reporting

  • Knowledge of HR processes, payroll, and timekeeping systems

  • Strong Excel and financial systems skills (reporting, formulas, pivot tables, dashboards, etc.)

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to present financial and operational information clearly

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for reconciliations and reporting

  • Ability to create ad-hoc queries and reports from databases for decision making purposes

  • Ability to research and analyze financial data, assess trends, and prepare information that supports planning

  • Ability to work collaboratively with finance, HR, and operational teams

  • Ability to learn and adapt to new systems, processes, and divisional procedures


Additional Information:


Salary Information:

$67,909 - $75,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)
