Summary of Job Duties:

The Associate Director of Marketing and Communications serves the College of Engineering by creating compelling written content that elevates the institution's brand presence and storytelling efforts. This role serves as the primary writer for featured stories and press releases while supporting the Director of Marketing and Communications in website management, social media strategy, and ensuring all content aligns with the college's strategic plan and institutional goals.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Key Responsibilities:

Serve as primary writer and content creator for featured stories, press releases, and other institutional communications

Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to identify, develop, and craft compelling narratives that showcase the college's achievements and impact

Assist the Director of Marketing and Communications with website content management, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and strategic alignment

Support social media content development and strategy implementation across all college platforms

Work closely with academic departments and advancement to translate complex technical achievements into accessible, engaging content for diverse audiences

Ensure all content produced aligns with the college's strategic plan, brand guidelines, and institutional messaging priorities

Conduct interviews, research, and fact-checking to support accurate and compelling storytelling

Manage content calendars and coordinate with internal stakeholders to meet publication deadlines

Stay current with higher education communication trends, best practices, and emerging digital platforms


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education

  • At least three years of professional writing experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in various writing formats including feature stories, press releases, and social media copy

  • Experience with content management systems and basic HTML knowledge

  • Experience managing social media platforms and content scheduling tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in higher education marketing or communications

  • Experience with analytics tools and content performance measurement

  • At least three years of professional writing experience in higher education, non-profit, or agency environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Excellent interviewing skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders

  • Strong project management abilities with experience meeting tight deadlines

  • Knowledge of AP style and other relevant style guides

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with various teams

Salary Information:

$61,735; commensurate with education and experience
