Department's Website:
Summary of Job Duties:
The J.B. Hunt Transport Department of Supply Chain Management in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas invites applications and nominations for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Supply Chain Management, beginning August 16, 2027. These positions are part of a coordinated faculty cluster hire in supply chain management focused on contested logistics and defense-relevant supply chain research. The department is concurrently recruiting multiple tenure-track and research faculty whose collective expertise will extend the University of Arkansas’s leadership in contested logistics, military and defense logistics, and national security supply chains, in close partnership with the Contested Logistics Consortium and the Supply Chain Management Research Center (SCMRC). This cluster in contested logistics and supply chain aligns with one of the University’s and College’s key strategic priorities and builds critical mass in a high-importance academic and research domain. It advances the land-grant mission by connecting research, instruction, and outreach to pressing state and societal needs.
This is a research-focused faculty position for a scholar with strong potential to publish high-impact, theoretically rigorous, and managerially relevant research in leading peer-reviewed supply chain management, logistics, operations, and business journals. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department’s continued research excellence, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, engage meaningfully with students and doctoral candidates, and participate in service activities consistent with rank and career stage.
The department is especially interested in candidates whose research addresses important supply chain challenges facing firms, industries, public institutions, and society. Areas of interest may include, but are not limited to resilience, risk, supply chain visibility, analytics, technology-enabled supply chains, defense and critical infrastructure supply chains, global networks, inventory and distribution systems, disruption management, and the interface between commercial and public-sector logistics systems. Consistent with the cluster hire strategy, the department has particular interest in candidates whose research directly addresses military logistics, contested logistics, and defense supply chain challenges, with opportunities to engage with the Contested Logistics Consortium and military and defense stakeholders.
Candidates should demonstrate potential to produce research that is publishable in premier academic journals, with that research also generating insights that can inform industry practice, practitioner-oriented publications, executive audiences, and applied research partnerships. The position is aligned with the department’s broader commitment to academically excellent, industry-relevant scholarship and the Walton College’s distinctive access to leading companies, entrepreneurial ventures, public-sector partners, and supply chain innovators.
Regular on-campus availability, in-person teaching, and active contribution to the life of the department, including exhibiting respect and cooperation in shared academic and administrative tasks are essential duties.
