Summary of Job Duties:

The Accounts Payable Accountant I reports directly to the Accounts Payable Manager and will be responsible for processing supplier invoices, payment disbursements, wire transfers, stop-payments, and cancellation of checks, as well as review account statements and research of credit memos to identify where these credits are to be applied.

This position ensures accounts payable is processed in accordance with state regulations and university policies and ensures university payments are properly processed in a timely manner; ensures Accounts Payable provides quality customer service to both internal customers and suppliers; applies critical thinking/decision-making skills to resolve issues. May act as a departmental lead and backup for the Accounts Payable Manager. Other duties as assigned.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in general business, business administration, finance, or a related field

  • Experience with client-server based financial information systems, preferably Workday

  • At least two years of related fiscal experience

Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the qualifications listed above.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’ degree in accounting or equivalent course work

  • A minimum of two years of supervisory experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Experience utilizing data warehouse query tools

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of entry of payment data within Workday

  • Knowledge of department operations, policies, and procedures

  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations

  • Knowledge of computers and software applications

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Ability to conduct research and perform basic quantitative quality assurance reviews

  • Ability to resolve operational problems

  • Ability to research, prepare, and present comprehensive written and oral reports to the supervisor

  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate activities, resources, and materials associated with the needs of the department or program

  • Ability to work professionally with external and internal department stakeholders

Salary Information:

$46,383 - $57,978.50 Commensurate with education and experience
