Pre-Med Gap Year Clinical Doctor’s Assistant Program
Clinical Assistant Position for Pre-Med Students taking a Gap Year.
Ozark Dermatology is looking for happy, positive teammates to join us for full-time work in our innovative bridge program starting in May 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for pre-med candidates who are looking to gain valuable hands-on clinical and administrative experience in dermatology. This is an ideal position for a pre-medical student taking a bridge or gap year. Our physicians, PAs, and NPs enjoy teaching and mentoring, and many serve as adjunct assistant clinical professors for UAMS. Our team of providers also serves as dermatology instructional preceptors for UAMS medical students and UAMS and Harding PA students.
A successful candidate must be a quick learner, compassionate, enthusiastic, friendly, and enjoy working in both the exam rooms (as a medical assistant) and front office (check-in, check-out receptionist as well as a medical scribe). Training will be provided and a certification as a dermatology medical assistant is available. Opportunities to publish articles in medical literature may also be available.
About the Doctor/Provider Assistant Position
Clinical assistants will work in a fast-paced and hands-on environment directly involved in patient care taking histories, assisting with surgeries, scribing, working with doctors/PAs/NPs in all aspects of the patient encounter, and checking patients in and out at the front desk. All training will be provided on site. Additionally, students will be given mentorship and guidance in their professional school application process. Training also includes hands-on labs with skills demonstration. Examples include suture lab, phlebotomy, medication administration, instrument sterilization and more.
Candidate requirements:
- Taking a gap year for a 12-month commitment
- Undergraduate degree and planning to attend medical school
- Strong desire to help patients and passion for healthcare

Job responsibilities:
- Intake/rooming of patients
- Answer phones/Good phone etiquette
- Scribe for providers
- Assist providers in MOHS and other surgeries/procedures
- Clean and prepare rooms at the beginning and end of the day
- Obtain patients' chief complaints and medical histories
- Assist our physicians, PA’s and NP’s during patient examination
- Assist with surgical procedures
- Suture removal and medical dressings
- Complete paperwork for laboratories
- Notify patients with pathology and/or laboratory results
- Educate patients
- Schedule appointments
- Stock exam/surgical rooms
- Learn how to do prior authorization for medications
- Learn coding and billing fundamentals
- Other medical assistant duties as assigned
